19 Inclusive Alternatives for “Bride and Groom”

I’d hope by now, you know that not only straight people get married. But many well-meaning wedding vendors also make mistakes when trying to be inclusive in calling their couples “bride and bride” or “groom and groom.” Gender and sexuality can be fluid, meaning there are many way couples may identify. Prevent yourself from putting your foot in your mouth by using one of these gender-neutral, inclusive terms instead.

Inclusive Terms for a Bride or Groom

Instead of using “bride” or “groom” on your website or your contact form, you could say…

  • marrier

  • partner

  • boo

  • sweetie

  • honey

  • lover

  • betrothed

  • other half

  • better half

  • best friend

Inclusive Terms for a Couple

Instead of using “bride and groom” or “Mr. and Mrs.,” you could say…

  • couple

  • lovebirds

  • newlyweds

  • nearlyweds

  • lovers

  • partners

  • team

  • pair

Inclusive Terms for Mr. and Mrs.

Instead of using courtesy titles like “Mr.” and/or “Mrs.,” you could say…

  • Mx.

Or you could avoid courtesy titles altogether.

Am I Missing One?

I’d love to make this list as comprehensive as possible! Please email me at taylor@lteditorial.com if there’s another term you or your couples use that I don’t have here, and I’ll include it.
