Four Steps to Turning Your Home Into a Dream Wedding Venue

by Linda Chase of Able Hire

There are many benefits for clients who want to hold part of their wedding at their home, from total freedom of decoration to saving a little extra money to put toward a nice honeymoon or a down payment on a home. No matter the reason, you want their big day to be perfect. With these inexpensive but stunning options, you can help your clients transform their homes into gorgeous wedding venues:

Clean Like You Never Have Before

Before you start your cleaning process, you need to declutter. Next, come up with a plan. When you’re ready to go, have your cleaning team start from the top of each room and work their way down so that any fallen dust gets picked up. If it helps, create or print a checklist of every area so you can mark them off as you go. This may sound brutal, but it will definitely be worthwhile when every window sparkles and the doorknobs shine in photographs. Decluttering and cleaning will also give you the best idea of what area has the most potential for staging and photographs.

Make the Yard Work

The time of year will dictate what type of work you need to do. If it’s nearing autumn, clean up all the detritus that has fallen, and clear out any dead plants. Regardless of the season, you should trim things to make everything look neat and even, as well as remove any dead heads from flowers. When it comes to flowers, if possible, plant new ones that will be in your clients’ wedding colors. You will want to create walking paths for photo ops and for guests to enjoy the outdoors. Pea gravel is the most inexpensive option, and you can liven it up by lining your new paths with different colored stones, or even plants. Of course, you and your clients will likely not have the time to do all of this prep yourselves. In that case, it’s worth the cost to hire a professional landscape company to help you make these upgrades. Look to sites like Angi to find local landscape contractor reviews and deals.

Get Your Theme On

Decorations can get expensive quickly, so think outside the box. Consider retailers like IKEA, as they have beautiful decorations in many color options for affordable prices. Silk flowers are less costly than real ones, and they won’t fade in heat. Think about what lighting works best in the space as well. Soft light can make any venue romantic and can transform a home into an enchanting getaway. Put some tea lights in jars on each table, or hang some paper lanterns in the wedding’s colors to add a touch of fun.

Hosting That Much Food

For food, don’t shy away from small appetizers. This can allow people to mingle and eat while keeping the space relatively free, especially if tiered platters are used. You can even skip the traditional meal with everyone dining in one space and allow people to eat at their leisure throughout the night in various rooms. Otherwise, you may have to rearrange the furniture to find a configuration that allows everyone to eat together, or, weather permitting, eat outside.

This is your clients’ special day, so you’ll definitely want everything to be perfect. Doing things at their home can take more work, but it can allow them to save money and ensure that every aspect is to their unique specifications. With the right planning, you can make this a day they will never forget.
